Hot Dog Stand, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.
I’ve been waiting to get a picture of the hot dog cart guy – now I know that good weather is here to stay for a while! I walk by there a few times a day and it smells so good. It would have been better to get closer for the picture but then I’m always afraid someone will say “What the hell are you doing taking pictures??” And this is why I’m an amateur.

well that can happen if you are taking a picture of the subject in a manner he or she finds inappropriate or intrusive in nature…amateur or pro alike. Usually if
you ask for permission nicely and perhaps offer to drop/email a copy of the result…you might be surprised at how things will turn out. And nothing smells like sausages sizzeling on a bed of onions…..

You are right and my thing isn’t that I ever try to be stealthy when taking pictures – it is that I’m insanely fearful of rejection. Not a good thing if you spent your whole life wishing you could be a photographer!! I’ve been thinking of issuing a challenge to myself to just bite the bullet and ask a few people if I can take a picture with them in it to see what the reaction would be…if I don’t get over that I’ll never progress beyond taking close-ups of flowers and I don’t want that!
Thanks for stopping by, I’m always jazzed when someone takes the time to stop by and offer a comment!

taking that first time step into the unknown is so hard to do! when you are ready to do so..you will… “street photography” is one of the most challenging style for most people..take heart that you are not alone…and trying out what you doing with just a p&s camera is really very brave..imaging what you can achieve given the camera with the range of lenses you would like….

Oh boy do I know…I hope to have at least a low end DSLR by early next year…I have my eye on some classes but they require a camera with the capability for full manual control, which this one does not have – though its close. Right now I’m trying hard to not fall into the trap of thinking that my pictures would be better “only if I had a DSLR.” Perhaps by practicing some techniques with the P&S, I’ll be somewhat competent by the time I get the better camera!
Someday you’ll have to let me know if you have any work displayed online…love to check it out!

“that guy talks alot..half the time he’s got nothing to show for it” …faimiliar? that’s me Christine..I look forward to the day you have the equipment you so much want…I may be wrong but I don’t think you can deny the fact that your pictures will be different technically(if theres such a thing) but your eye for interesting subject matter and artistic quality will remain the same..when I do find the courage to post…you will be the first ..thanks
