wolcott grounds

Wolcott House Shop, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

Ok, now you can see the church off to the right where husband and I got married. I thought it would be such a *great* idea to get married in a historic little old church…until it was 95 degrees at ceremony time and there was no air conditioning!

The red building is the gift shop. I need to go over in the morning in order to get a good picture of the front of the church. I also need to stop taking photos of inanimate buildings.

wolcott house

Wolcott House, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

The Wolcott House Museum decorated for Christmas – taken on the last good day before the temperature plummeted.

I remember all the school field trips we took to the Wolcott House when we were kids…what you can’t see in the picture is the little church on the museum grounds (off to the right) where my husband and I got married 18 years ago…waiting for another nice day to get some pictures of that.

Speaking of husband, he remarked that he did not understand the meaning of my last post title ( 365 – 146 = no way).  So I will explain for his benefit (and yours, if necessary!)  I started this blog to document my 365 photo project.  I was to post one picture per day for 365 days.  I had only posted 146 as of last week.  I will fall approximately 219 pictures short and there is no way I can cover the spread in one month.  I will try harder next year.  Sincerely yours, Christine

end of the line

End of the line, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

One of our new favorite places to go in the evenings is to the start of the Wabash Cannonball Trail in Monclova. Opposite the trail head is the last of the original rail line and some abandoned boxcars.

This picture is straight out of the camera…with fall coming on the sky turns a lovely shade of pink some evenings at sunset.

after the ball

After the ball, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

A small group was watching this guy cast our repeatedly to try and rescue a ball that some kids had lost in the Maumee River at Sidecut. He did eventually get it to shore.

back to fallen timbers

Back to Fallen Timbers, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

Went back the next day to redo because the light the other evening was coming from behind as the sun set – so I got a nicely lit picture of the statues’ asses….returned early next morning when the sun was a bit off to the side of the front of the monument. Much better!

battlesite

Battlesite, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

This is the battlefield I was talking about earlier…I would love to get out there and explore (and yes, I know you’re not allowed to take anything), I hear there are lots of musket balls, arrowheads and other artifacts from the battle. I liked this just because of how great the day looked with blue sunny sky and green fields…so give it up for the beautiful day!

Now, if you are facing this field and you do a complete 180 degree turn, you are then looking at the big new mall – a very different view!!

share the road

Another glorious day in the paradise on Earth that is Maumee. We walked from the Fallen Timbers monument to the actual battlefield, which I have never realized the location of. There’s a big sign there marking the spot and staying to stay out. It is an empty field surrounded by houses on either side at a little distance. It is an archaeological site and I guess they find artifacts there sometimes and that’s why you can’t step out onto the field. The battle occurred between the Native Americans and the settlers about 215 years ago.

I have been horrible about not posting pictures lately, partly because there is so much going on at home and partly because I don’t feel like I’m getting any better at this yet. But as the Foo Fighters sang, “What if I said I would NEVER surrender?” Yeah!
