what’s under the tree?

October 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

What’s under the tree?, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

Out in this brown, dried out field there is a patch of green grass under a tree. We wondered what the white structures were…at first I though they were headstones, but then my husband pointed out, “duh – they’re beehives.” I think he was right! We were so far away, it was hard to tell…this is a zoom shot and its still hard to tell for sure…the fall colors were so pretty.

Ok, I know I am about to be drummed out of the amateur photographer’s squad for not getting out with my camera more often! I’m letting the limitations of my fabulous pink point and shoot slow me down so I’ve been posting less often. I will try to correct this!

mystery marker

June 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Mystery Marker, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

If you enter Side Cut Park in Maumee (on the side that still has the canal locks) and take the trail that goes out to the Fallen Timbers monument, it takes you in and out of the woods and through a meadow. The trail bypasses a local cemetery by winding around it from behind.

We were walking the trail last night (as we have done many times before) and this marker is tucked in the trees at the top of a small hill along the trail. It looks interestingly out of place there, though I know it is part of the cemetery, (probably an old boundary marker or fence post for the property). We did find another one when we accidentally walked up the cemetery’s service drive looking for an alternate way to join the trail. I just always wonder exactly what they were for and how long they’ve been there.

stair railing

Stair Railing, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

Today sucked so awesomely that I decided to just go home and put my jammies on and go to bed, so no picture taking today…plus the weather was gray and rainy. So, here’s another picture that I took yesterday near the Commodore Perry monument in Perrysburg. To get down close to the river we had to go down some insanely steep steps, and this was taken at the bottom. There were decorative spheres on the railing at intervals, and this is a picture of one of them with the park in the background.

Memorial Weekend Sunset, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

This came out a touch dark but otherwise is true to the amazing pink and purple sunset we had this evening…its rare to see the sky quite this vivid…

Glad we have tomorrow off for the holiday. Gong to a parade and community barbecue.

sky

Sky, originally uploaded by Clbailey1.

Aaah…this picture, besides lookin’ pretty cool (in my opinion) is a good photographic rendition of the way I’ve been feeling…I can be having a blue sky perfect day and then BOOM the dark clouds hit and then I am a major crab from then on out.

Photographically speaking, I liked the drama and the lighting and I hope I captured it competently.

netting the catch

Netting the Catch, originally uploaded by Clbailey1.

Some guys right next to the dam outside of Grand Rapids, OH catching a fish. I was too slow to get a picture when they held it up, but is was huge – looked at least 14 inches. They showed it off, then released it.

Right now the Walleye Run is on, which always brings thousands of fishermen and women from all over to our section of the Maumee River.  It was a bit quieter in Grand Rapids than in Maumee, but there were still plenty of people out with their poles.

survived the winter

Found this outside in the backyard this morning – the remains of a leaf. The photo is a little blurry, but I can live with that for now.
